What the letter asks New Mexico to do
  1. Pass a firearm industry responsibility law that holds manufacturers and sellers liable when their marketing or sales practices put New Mexico's children at risk.
  2. Require that handguns sold in New Mexico include technology that keeps them from firing in the hands of a child or any other unauthorized user, as that technology becomes available.
  3. Strengthen New Mexico's child access prevention law to require that guns be locked whenever they are not in the owner's control.
  4. To our members of Congress: repeal the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which gives the gun industry an immunity from lawsuits that no other industry enjoys.
